2010s

Shams Amiry, BA-H’11, JD'14, was called to the Bar on May 16, 2015, and is currently practising family law at Hoffman Law in Calgary.

Ikponwosa Ero, LLB’12, has been appointed the first-ever Independent Expert on the Enjoyment of Human Rights by Persons with Albinism by The United Nation Human Rights Council in 2015. As someone who lives with albinism, Ero has a passion for educating and advocating for people around the world who experience discrimination and torture as a result of the genetic condition. Thanks to her lobby efforts and international advocacy, the UN Human Rights Council created International Albinism Awareness Day on June 13.

Inaki Gomez, JD'15, won the silver medal in the 20km race walk at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto.

Jessica MacDonald, JD'14, was called to the Alberta Bar in August 2015. She is currently practising Personal Injury and Family Law at Vogel LLP in Calgary.

Stephanie McLean, JD’12, made headlines as Alberta’s first sitting MLA to have a baby. Her pregnancy revealed that some legislature rules required updating. Until now, MLAs aren’t covered by parental leave and will be docked pay for missing more than 10 days of work. But Premier Rachel Notley is keen on making changes so that the legislature ismore family-friendly.

Geneviève Morrison, BComm’11, former national champion Dinos wrestler, won gold in the 48-kg women’s freestyle at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto as well as a bronze medal at the United World Wrestling Championships. She also won gold at the Nordhagen Classics for the third time in her career.

Graeme Schell, BKin’14 and his brother Andrew, won the silver medal in squash doubles at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto and were part of the gold-medal winning Canadian trio in the team competition.

Barrett Schitka, JD'14, has been called to the Texas Bar and is now a full associate with Latham & Watkins LLP Houston office. Barrett was one of the first students to complete the International Energy Lawyers Program, the joint degree with the University of Houston Law Center.

Pouria Taghipour Tabrizi, JD'13, was inducted into the Prince Albert Bar Association on November 27, 2015.
